Tottenham: Midfielder Olga Ahtinen’s move to Hammarby breaks down

Tottenham midfielder Olga Ahtinen’s move to Swedish club Hammarby has broken down and she is unlikely to join the club this month.

The 27-year-old has made only three starts in the Women’s Super League this season after joining Spurs in 2023.

The Finland international travelled to Sweden for a medical with Hammarby last week, with both clubs believed to have reached an agreement in principle.

However, the move is now not expected to materialise as Hammarby prepare for the new season in the Damallsvenskan, the highest division of Swedish women’s football.

When asked about why the move broke down, Tottenham boss Robert Vilahamn said: “She wanted to stay. I didn’t want to push her away and I’m happy to have her here. That’s why she’s staying.

“I like Olga as a player, I think she brings something to us all of the time. But if there is a chance that a club wants to buy her and she wants to leave then we will obviously listen to that.”

When asked to clarify why Ahtinen travelled to Sweden for a medical, he added: “I’m not sure about the flying plans and everything, but there was some interest from Hammarby. But she wanted to stay.”
